A great rainforest experience offering a variety of habitats & good wildlife viewing. Great as an economical stand-alone experience or combined with another of our experiences.
The lodge we use is Finca Sachavacayoc, a relatively new and comfortable lodge with excellent guiding and other services. Upgraded accommodation will be completed by March/April 2024 and a 35-40m canopy tower is due to be installed by mid-2024.
Sachavacayoc and Condenado oxbow lakes are both scenic & rich in wildlife, each with its own character.
The Chuncho Clay Lick is currently the largest & most active macaw & parrot clay lick known. The flocks of large macaws & parrots which gather here are one of the Amazon’s great wildlife spectacles. We visit the Chuncho Clay Lick as an early morning outing from our new lodge downriver arriving before the best time of day for macaw & parrot activity. Our journey upriver is an experience in itself & can offer wonderful wildlife viewing. It is here that we may be lucky enough to see the truly wild jaguar & tapir.
For those who want to experience piranha fishing, you can coordinate with your guide to enjoy this activity where possible on the lakes.
Arrival and reception by our guide or transfer at the airport or bus station. Our guides are experienced professionals with deep knowledge of the area and rainforest, we provide 1 guide for a group of max 8 people. Transfer from the airport to our central office in town. Upon arrival to Pto. Maldonado City, our transfer or guide will welcome you and drive you for a few minutes to our office in town. At our office its necessary to pack only what you need for the next few days; the main luggage will stay at our safe deposit. Transportation’s easier that way, and it keeps our boats and porter cargo light. We provide smaller duffel bags at the office if necessary.
Transfer to our own private port on the Tambopata River.
Tambopata River Port to Finca Sachavacayoc. We navigate up the Tambopata River for 2-3 hours until we reach our lodge, Finca Sachavacayoc (boat travel time will depend on stops to see wildlife on the way). Possibilities along the way include birds, caiman, capybaras, and monkeys.
Boxed lunch on the boat. We can customize your box lunch with a vegetarian option if required & we also provide cold bottled drinks on the boat.
In the full company and orientation of our guide, we arrive at Finca Sachavacayoc lodge.

Macaw Clay Lick: Today we visit the spectacular Chuncho clay lick, the largest in the world, with the three major species of macaws getting together at the same time, and many varieties of parrots, hundreds of parrots come together to eat clay – a special and unique behaviour that is only found in this part of the planet.
Early departure at 4 am, then 2 hours on our boat upstream on the Tambopata River – in order to enjoy the best of the macaws and parrots it is important to arrive early before the birds!
We will take breakfast on the boat.
Along the journey to the clay-lick we have excellent possibilities of seeing capybaras, caiman and maybe if lucky a jaguar or tapirs (the two largest rarest terrestrial mammals of the Amazon).
We stay in the clay lick area as long as possible if conditions are right until we get to see the macaws & parrots.
Return to the lodge for lunch.
Lake Condenado: After a good rest, we get packed and ready for the pristine Lake Condenado, a 1-hour slow walk from Lake Condenado. It offers very good wildlife such as monkeys, caiman, hoatzin, and macaws. We also have relatively good chances of seeing the elusive and shy anaconda. This place gives us a unique Jungle experience, most likely with no other people apart from us on this pristine lake enjoying the deepest and wildest jungle, watching monkeys and macaws being loud. On the way back, we return to the lodge doing a night walk looking for wildlife or just enjoy the spooky- romantic- intense, silent, and loud jungle.
